The Guardian Avionics AERO 452 is a panel-mounted carbon monoxide (CO) detection system designed to protect pilots and passengers from the dangers of carbon monoxide exposure in certified aircraft. It combines a highly accurate, TSO-certified CO sensor with an integrated cabin pressure warning system in a compact, lightweight unit.
The AERO 452 continuously monitors carbon monoxide levels within the aircraft cabin. When CO concentrations exceed 50 parts-per-million (PPM), the unit provides both visual and aural alerts. An amber LED and audible alarm activate when levels reach 50–99 PPM for a sustained period, while immediate red LED and aural warnings are triggered when CO levels exceed 99 PPM.
An internal pressure sensor provides altitude-based warnings at 10,000 feet, 12,500 feet, and 14,000 feet, reminding the pilot when supplemental oxygen should be considered. These alerts can be displayed using an optional annunciator light. The unit also includes an RS-232 serial interface, allowing CO and pressure status information to be displayed on supported external avionics such as PFDs, MFDs, or engine monitoring systems.
The AERO 452 features an internal fan to optimize air sampling, temperature compensation circuitry for accurate sensing, and shielding to prevent electromagnetic interference with other aircraft systems. Designed for straightforward installation, it requires minimal panel space and is suitable for certified single- and multi-engine piston aircraft when installed in accordance with approved aircraft data and Guardian Avionics instructions.
